Explanation
These particles are used to express that one action (A) is completed before another action (B) is performed or that the state of action B continues.
- “後に” emphasizes the state that follows action A.
- “後で” emphasizes the action B itself.
When used with time nouns, it indicates the preceding time relationship.
- Additionally, when used with time nouns or Chinese-derived nouns, it is generally read as “~ご”.
When used with nouns that indicate location, it indicates the preceding spatial relationship.
- In this case, it often becomes “~後ろ (うしろ)”. However, there are exceptions such as “彼の後 (あと) を追う” (chasing after him) and “私の後 (あと) についてきて” (come behind me).
